During the Great Himalayan Motorbike Tour you visit Dhankar Monastery, a Buddhist temple in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pardesh. It is situated at an elevation of 3894 meter in Spiti valley, between Kaza and Tabo. The monastery is built on a 300 meter high spur overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin River. Dhankar is Tibetan word and its mean fort on cliff. Dhankar monastery, like Key Monastery and Tangyad Monastery is Spiti valley and Thiksey, Likir and Rangdum monastery in Ladakh was built as fort monastery on the central Tibetan pattern.
